While he claims to have seen an "oracle" at work in Tibet, Theo Bernard, in the "Daily Mail," denied the truth of levitation and dematerialisation and declared that the "higher lamas" with whom he spoke agreed with him in believing that such phenomena did not exist.
Murdo MacDonald-Bayne, who has also just returned from a visit to Tibet, declares that he has seen in that country both levitation and dematerialisation. It would seem that Bernard, an orthodox Buddhist, met only those steeped in orthodoxy who, as in Christian orthodoxy, deny anything that tends to render priestcraft unnecessary.
Below, MacDonald-Bayne answers Bernard:
Theo Bernard is indeed fortunate to have got into Tibet. He says that he searched but could not find dematerialisation and levitation and that the lamas he met discounted the idea.
Most of the lamas are unable to read or write and are bound up with creed, dogma and ceremonial; much the same as priests in our own midst. Only a few get beyond the embryo stage, knowing little or nothing of the actual manifestation of spiritual phenomena.
NOT FOR THE CURIOUS Yet it fills volumes of their books, just as the Bible reveals spiritual phenomena. But it is discounted because it is not revealed to those who live on the outside or the exoteric side.
Bernard has not yet touched the fringe of mysterious Tibet, which is hidden away from the beaten track in the great recesses of the Himalayas, away from the prying eyes of the ordinary traveller.
Levitation and materialisation are rare events in the monasteries, yet they are seen in the recesses of the mountains when higher yogis meet and where the inner secrets are known and practised, but never divulged except to those who are free from limitations mentally, physically and spiritually.
In some of the advanced circles in England, materialisation, dematerialisation and levitation take place. It was at one of these circles that I was first directed on my journey to Tibet.
GUIDED BY A VOICE From time to time the same voice guided me until I reached my destination. Then that same voice greeted me from one living in the flesh, and I witnessed both materialisation, and levitation.
I was guided and met at various stages of my journey according to plan. I saw a manifestation of my own "dead" mother and many others.
It is practically impossible to find the "masters" unless one is called spiritually and has his spiritual gifts developed.
Can anybody gain admittance to circles in London where there occur remarkable psychic phenomena? No, of course not. You have to earn that. Yet proofs have been given of materialisation and dematerialisation by Western psychic investigators.
At one of the monasteries in Tibet, off the beaten track, over the mountain from the Chumbi Valley, there is an oracle.
The high lama of this monastery is considered by many as one of the "masters." For months on end he is absent from the monastery and no one knows of his whereabouts. He just disappears. I had the privilege of meeting him, but not in the monastery.
He is one of the true disciples of yoga and has developed great powers. For many years his monastery was without an oracle, and he was wise enough not to appoint a lama who was not a medium to this privileged position.
PSYCHIC MULE-DRIVER One day he was travelling down the Chumbi Valley when he saw a mule-driver whom he recognised as a medium, as Jesus did when he chose his disciples from among the fishermen.
While speaking to him, the mule-driver went into trance, and one of the "masters" spoke through him. In broad daylight, independent voices were heard. Immediately the mule-driver was placed in the high position of an oracle.
I saw this young man myself. He is about 25 years of age and holds one of the cherished positions in the monastery. His powers were developed under the tutorship of the high lama.
FEATS IN TRANCE I called at the monastery and found that the independent voices were loud enough for me to hear them. While in trance he can bend red hot irons with his hands. Chains that bind him fall broken to the ground.
He walks through fire without even scorching his garment.
Through the mediumship of Estelle White, of California, I spoke and recognised one of the "masters" who materialised, and who was with me in Tibet.
